Super Mario Bros. | ||||||||
|
- For other games in the series see Super Mario Bros..
Super Mario Bros. is a side-view platform action game and a staple NES game. Officially, it sold more than any other game in history (if you include package deals as sales) and is most likely the first game played by a member of the NES generation. The premise is simple; the princess has been kidnapped by a giant reptile, the king of the Koopas, and you being the awesome plumber that you are, must save her. This is a very early platformer, and it set the standard for many games that would come later.

Music
Super Mario Bros. has one of the most iconic soundtracks in video game history. Even most people who don't play video games will recognize the iconic Mario theme. According to Koji, to come up with the game's music, he played the game during its development, and wrote music to fit with the theme of the game. In particular, he wrote the Above Ground BGM at 100 BPM to match the game's speed, and wrote the Game Over music to encourage the player to try again.
Koji has also stated in various interviews how he had to program his own sound driver, and wrote the music in 6502 assembly language.
