Space Quest Theme
Composer Mark Crowe
Released 1986-10-??
Title Origin Game Location

The Space Quest Theme is the original classical piece heard at the boot up of Space Quest composed by Mark Crowe [1], and rearranged for each subsequent Space Quest game. It is a very up-tempo number with a rapid harmony and slower melody.

About the song's composition Crowe said the following:

I used to have this little desktop synthesizer keyboard, and I kind of pecked it out. It was like a four-track thing that I was able to compose the thing on, and then I had to, I think, I can't remember if Ken or Al provided us with some kind of way to basically punch that music in on your computer keyboard. So, it had to be done on a, it had to be typed in, basically. And that was very painstaking, getting it just right.

The first Space Quest game is where the Space Quest Theme began. The song is played at the game's title screen, through the introduction, and at the ending. The song can be heard through either the PCjr 3 Voice, the Tandy 3 Voice, or the PC Speaker. The song is track 60 in the rip and loops.

In Space Quest II, the Space Quest Theme is given a slightly more somber tone, possibly to reflect the pathetic place we find our hero in. Like the first game, the song is played at the game's title screen, through the introduction, and at the ending. But it's also played in the infamous cheat ending. The song can be heard through either the PCjr 3 Voice, the Tandy 3 Voice, or the PC Speaker. The song is again track 60 in the rip. This version doesn't loop. A variation of the song exists in the game with the Space Quest Theme (Reprise).
