In 1984, he left Atari and would later go on to work for Epyx a couple years later. For three years, he wrote music and sound effects for some of their computer games. In 1991, Vieira went on to work for The 3DO Company, not only doing audio design, but also working as a game producer. Vieira left the company in 1996. Since 1997, Vieira has been operating his own business, Arieiv Consulting. The company works on several aspects of game design including project management and audio design.

Audio Development

Atari 2600

Vieira had to code his own sound driver in assembly language.

Commodore 64

On The Games: Summer Edition (C64), Vieira used SPL by Chris Grigg.

Lynx

Vieira said this about creating music and sound effects for the Atari Lynx:

We developed music on the Amiga computer because the creators of Lynx also created the Amiga computer. There was a sort of primitive media program that could take my midi files and translate them into a data table for the platform. The sound driver hardware was done by Dave Needle and the software partly by Chris Grigg. A funny thing is that Dave claimed he didn’t like music and so he apologized for the music limitations of the Lynx. We corrected that in the 3DO.
