Make Software (株式会社メイクソフトウェア Meiku Sofutowea) is a Japanese game developer, and consisted mostly of former Nichibutsu employees. As a result, the company worked closely with Nichibutsu on several titles. They also worked with other well-known game companies including Capcom and Hudson Soft. In the west, they are probably best known for developing Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers 2 and DuckTales 2, both released for the Game Boy and NES.

The company stopped working on video games around the year 2000, and the company filed for bankruptcy in October 2018.

Music Development

NES

Make Software didn't start making NES games until the 90's. Interestingly, Capcom and Nichibutsu stopped using their own sound engines around this time so they could use the Make Software sound driver. The reason for this is unknown, but it is suspected it is because the sound engine was either MIDI or an easier to work with MML format. Apparently the revised Make Software driver was easier to program, than the main Nichibutsu driver by using less of the memory capabilities. It is unknown who programmed the sound driver, but due to the credits in F1 Circus and Terra Cresta II, it was probably made by Akihiro Akamatsu.

SNES

Make Software used its own rendition of Nintendo's Kankichi-kun sound engine.

The Super Famicom game Earth Light and Super Nintendo game Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball share a custom sound driver, thought to have belonged to Make Software, but this isn't confirmed. Both games are confirmed to have been confirmed to have been composed by Hudson Soft staff.
