Major Stryker is a scrolling shooter for DOS that helped fill the scrolling shooter void in the PC market at the time. It has several things that you'd expect a shooter to have like multiple firing styles, shields, air and ground targets, and lots of bullets flying at once. According to the game's story, Earth has just barely survived World War III, but the Kretons attacked in our weakness. You, Major Stryker are the last of Earth's defense, and it's up to you to save the planet!
The game is a competent shooter with lots of enemy ships and turrets to destroy, and even though it recycles the bosses, they're still pretty interesting looking and fun to fight. Also, there is a short dialogue interlude between each zone which offers plenty of humorous innuendo between Stryker and his female counterpart at HQ which keeps things interesting. Major Stryker looked a little dated with its EGA palette at a time when games were transitioning to VGA palette, and it didn't have several of the shoot-em-up staples that veteran players are used to like missiles, lasers, or heat-seekers. Also, upon beating the shareware episode, you've seen the majority of the game, which makes the remaining episodes drag a bit.

Music
The music of Major Stryker is quite fitting. The combat levels feature loud, upbeat music and the cutscences have a more melodious sound. Some tracks, like Soaring to Dizzying Heights are a bit obnoxious, but others, like Light Years Per Hour show off a great sounding electric guitar. Great sounding for AdLib, that is.
Major Stryker is also the first game to feature the Apogee Fanfare that would be a ubiquitous game intro through the mid-1990s.

Game Rip
The IMF music and VOC sound effects of Major Stryker was extracted from the Volume1B.MS2, Volume2B.MS2, and Volume3B.MS3 files using Frenkel Smeijers' Textract utility. The music was recorded using AdPlug 1.8 in Winamp. Two tracks, "Apogee Fanfare" and "Segueway" don't terminate properly in AdPlug, so they were edited manually.
Bobby Prince has offered the full titles and explained how they differ from the in-game music jukebox titles. "Rock It" is actually, "Rock-It In Space", "Handsome Tom" is actually, "Tom Is a Handsome Guy", and "Kissing the Sky" is actually, "Kiss My Contrails", "Soaring to Dizzy Heights", is actually "Soaring to Dizzying Heights". The ripped file "Score!" is properly "High Flyer", and the spelling of "Wierd" is supposed to be, "Weird".
Bobby Prince originally wrote the soundtrack using Sequencer Plus Gold in MIDI format, and then downgraded the tracks to IMF. You can find a couple of rearranged MIDI songs that try to capture the original sound in the rip.
