Loopz

Platform: C64
Year: 1991
Developer: Audiogenic Software

Loopz is a puzzle game by Ian Upton of Audiogenic Software. The goal of the game is to connect enough pipes to form a complete loop, in which the pipes will disappear off the playing field. These are called Loopz, as the game's title suggests. It combines elements from more popular puzzle games like Pipe Dream and Tetris.

The Commodore 64 version stays true to the rest of the ports.

Music

The game uses the soundtrack from most of the other versions. The SID file doesn't contain the four variations of the soundtrack, so there are less songs in this recording than the Amiga and NES versions for example. However, in-game when you lose a life, the music plays from another part like in the other versions, so the variations probably weren't ripped from the ROM.

Similar to the NES version, there are some parts that play an octave higher than the Amiga version.

David Whittaker wrote the music in 6502 assembly language into his own sound driver.

Credits

(Verification from composer; game lacks audio credits.)

The game has credits, but fails to mention David Whittaker for music. David Whittaker has confirmed in various interviews composing Loopz for the Commodore 64. This can also be supported since the game uses his sound driver.
