Hexen: Beyond Heretic is a fantasy themed first-person shooter and sequel to Heretic (DOS). The game uses a heavily modified Doom (DOS) engine with additions including doors swinging on an axis, jumping, flying, looking up and down, water with current, ambient sound effects, a hub style level system, an inventory, and of course the ability to choose a particular warrior class (fighter, cleric, mage).

In the game's story, the Serpent Riders aren't at all pleased about what you did to their companion, so they decided to enter your world and kill everyone. They missed you, and now it's time to pay them back by hunting down and defeating Korax.

Hexen is composed mostly of foreboding ambient tracks, but it has several upbeat powerful orchestrations and some jazzy tunes as well. The soundtrack is also quite large meaning you probably won't get tired of any one particular song. The CD version contained Redbook audio, but because the soundtrack is so large, they actually had to cut out several tracks in the CD. The diskette version has 37 while the CD version only has 21. As for quality, if you had a decent MIDI sequencer, the General MIDI version is actually better sounding than the CD audio.

The titles for the songs come from the Doom Wiki. Due the the majority of songs being over 2 minutes in length, and to remain similar to the CD rip, the recordings do not feature looping.

Both the CD and General MIDI versions have been recorded. Those tracks beginning with a 1 are the CD tracks, those beginning with a 2 are then General MIDI tracks.

Tracks 236 and 237 of the General MIDI recording are not played anywhere in the game and are not included in the CD soundtrack.
