The Game Boy Rip (the name is a guess) is a file that contains the Game Boy ROM code and data responsible for producing sound on the DMG-CPU B chip.

The format has been superseded by GBS which is essentially the same format, only with a more detailed header allowing it to play more complicated rips. As such, all Game Boy music on the Videogame Music Preservation Foundation should be in the more versatile GBS format.
