File talk:Covox Speech Thing Inside.jpg
I believe this is not the insides of Covox Speech Thing, but Disney Sound Source.
Does anyone else agree?
If so, then this picture should be renamed, link from Covox article removed, and add link to Sound Source article.
This is definitely not a Speech Thing, but it's not a Sound Source either. I think this is a homemade Speech Thing, but until I can find a primary source of the image online, I'll just remove it from the page. --TheAlmightyGuru (talk) 20:36, 1 January 2015 (MST)
It is unlikely to be a homemade Speech Thing, the ICS chip seems to be custom IC with no datasheet available, while homemade devices usually use easily available DAC chips or R-2R ladder package if they do not use discrete resistors for R-2R ladder. Many details however point that it could be a version of Sound Source, but I am not 100% sure. It says "DSS" on the silk, and the white flat cable can be seen in other DSS pictures going to the speaker/battery box. The Sound Source programming manual gives out a simplified schematic, and all the right components are there in the picture (the FIFO/DAC chip, transistor, and almost correct amount of resistors and capacitors). Also in the photo, the pin #17 of the printer side is grounded while pin #17 of the PC side is used, just like in the programming manual. Nothing implies it is definitely not a Sound Source.
