Destination Earthstar is a combination between a space flight simulator and a scrolling shooter. In flight-sim mode, you pilot your spaceship through sectors in space, engaging enemy ships and blasting them away. You can also dock at planets and refill you weapons and energy. The controls are a little unusual, but they are explained in the opening demo. Once you've killed all of the ships you dock at the main base and enter scrolling shooter mode which is simpler to control, but harder to beat.

As one of the few space flight simulators for the NES, Destination Earthstar certainly has a novel appeal, and once you get used to the controls it's a pretty fun game. However, mixing genres is always a difficult task, and the indecision between flight-sim and scrolling shooter makes the game feel like neither side was given enough attention.

Music

There are only two songs throughout the entire game, one played during flight-sim mode, the other played during scrolling shooter mode. Neither is impressive, but they're not bad either. However, hearing the same two tunes for the duration of the game starts to get on your nerves.

Ripping NES music is a very arduous process that is beyond the scope of this site.
