Caesars Palace II is a casino simulation game developed by Runecraft and published by Interplay. The game is a sequel to Caesars Palace (GB).

In Caesars Palace II, the player takes on the role of an unnamed male protagonist which they name. The player starts out with $2,000 and is given a $10,000 credit limit by the cashier. After that, the player can walk around the casino floor, similar to Super Caesars Palace (SNES), to choose which game they wish to play. Also like Super Caesars Palace, the player must win enough money to enter high roller areas.

Caesars Palace II introduces all the games found in the prequel and more. These include Blackjack, Roulette, Baccarat, Keno, Video Poker, Big 6, and a variety of slot machines. The game's packaging also advertises that the odds are realistically programmed, and was verified by a gambling consultant.

The game also introduces new mechanics not seen in the prequel, most notably the Speed Bet option, which bets the same amount as the player's previous bet to start a game quicker. It also has the polish of all sound effects being digitized. The dealers also have a digitized voice.

Music

Caesars Palace II has only four themes. The music starts when the player enters the menu and the songs change whenever the player switches to the casino floor, a game, or back to the main menu. The songs are mostly jazzy rhythms, so it fits with the casino theme. All of the game's music uses only the two square channels. The noise channel is never used, and the PCM channel is used for sound effects. Also interesting is that the game has a volume control for the music, something not seen in Game Boy games due to hardware limitations.

Matt Sugden most likely wrote the music as MIDI files, which were then converted to Paul Tankard's sound driver.

The digitized sound effects were taken from the PlayStation version, which credits the sound design to Charles Deenen and Adam Levenson.

Credits

(Source: Verification from staff, PS1 credits; game lacks audio credits.)

Though both the game and instruction manual have credits, both fail to credit any sound designers. We have contacted Matt Sugden who said he most likely composed the game's music, as he did with the other Caesars Palace games by Runecraft, though he says he doesn't remember much about it. This can also be supported by Sugden working at Runecraft the time this game was developed, as well as composing the music to Runecraft's only other Game Boy Color game, Scrabble (GBC). We also contacted Paul Tankard, also credited in Scrabble, who said his only contribution was the sound engine.
