Bionic Commando

Platform: Commodore 64
Year: 1988
Developer: Software Creations, Ltd.
For other games in the series see Bionic Commando.

Bionic Commando was ported to the Commodore 64 by two different companies, one in North America and this one for Europe. The PAL version in Europe is superior to the USA version with better graphics, music, controls, and an overall more accurate portrayal of the original arcade game. As with the arcade game, you play Super Joe, a soldier with a bionic arm who must shoot and swing his way through five highly dangerous stages. The game is incredibly difficult, and the low-resolution graphics of the Commodore 64 don't make it any easier.

The loader screen. Too bad they couldn't make the whole game look like that!

I'm in the top 5!

Music

Most of the music is just a rearrangement of the original arcade music, although Tim Follin infused a bit of his own flair into the tracks. However, the loader and ending themes were composed especially for this game. Interestingly, Follin ported Heat Wave, a track from the NES game and not found in the original arcade release.
