Bionic Commando is a platform shooter game where you control a soldier who has a bionic grappling-hook for an arm. Since you can't jump, the grappling hook is your only source of vertical movement. Two different ports exist for the Commodore 64. The PAL version was released in Europe, and the NTSC version was released in North America. The European version was considerably better than the North American version, though neither is without it's share of problems.

The game is incredibly difficult, and also short with only five levels.

The North American version lacks not only in graphics, but also in music. The entire game only uses two tracks from Harumi Fujita's original score, and it's not quite as impressive as sound from the European music.
