Music From the Ages is the first of two albums that were available through promotional events for the upcoming release of games in the Age of Empires series. This particular album was initially given as a handout during E3 1999, but it was also later available through different kinds of contests held by Ensemble Studios, the developers of the game series. It was never available at any retail outlet.

The music is straight from the games and is not arranged.
