Kimitaka Matsumae is a Japanese composer, arranger, keyboardist, and is the husband of Manami Matsumae, a prolific composer in the video games industry. He works for the music company Toiro Music.

Little is known about Kimitaka. He attended Chiba University, but then dropped out. In the mid-1980s, he formed the band Kidorikko and later left the group shortly after the release of their first album, Seregance na JOY due to creative and musical differences. In addition, he has also worked on other media, such as anime, solo work and preloaded ringtones.

He entered the game music industry around 1991, and appears to have left around 2009. However, he returned in 2021 when he worked on the opening and ending theme to the Switch game Cotton Reboot!.

Music Composition

Game Boy

For his work on Sanrio Carnival, Kimitaka used a sound driver by Katsuhiro Hayashi.

SNES

Kimitaka composed the music in Music Macro Language in HAL Laboratory's variant of Nintendo's Kankichi-kun sound driver. The instruments were taken from the Korg M1 and other various synths he owned at the time.
