Into the Thick of It is the song that plays for the majority of the wilderness areas during the beginning of the game. Specifically, the locations include the forest west of Potos village, the fields south of Potos, outside the Water Palace, in the cave of Gaia’s Navel, the Haunted Forest, the encounter with the werewolves, the Witch’s Castle, the Water Palace after the seed has been stolen, on the Republic Sandship before fighting Geshtar (Mech Rider 1), and in the Cave of the White Dragon.

The normal version of the song, played outside, is track 6 on the official soundtrack, but there is a second version of the song that is in the game, but not on the soundtrack. This version has a very minor echo added to it. It’s so similar that it’s nearly imperceptible from the original, but it plays in Undine’s Cave and in the Sewer System between the Empire’s Southtown and Northtown.

The song Did You See the Ocean?, also from Secret of Mana, is quite similar to this song, except it is has different timing and places more emphasis on percussion.
